Get rid of the 3 percent tax

To the editor,

For me, there are at least six reasons why I am going to vote “No” on making permanent the increase to three percent in the Wasilla City sales tax.

Reason no. 6: We voted to make the increase to three percent temporary. We need to remind the city what “temporary” means.

Reason no. 5: The list of proposed projects is bad.

Reason no. 4: We’d need an additional sales tax increase to maintain another $85 million in capital projects.

Reason no. 3: Voters should be deciding what projects get built: not bureaucrats.

Reason no. 2: I don’t believe in slush funds. The allocation of the revenue from this increase would generate too much “play money” for the City.

But, wait, there’s one more…coming next week.
