Get to know your ‘inner self’

To the editor:

I have come to believe that an intelligent aspect of a primordial form of logic established the laws of physics in an effort to utilize empty space. Changing energy into matter caused the Big Bang, and later, the realm of life was established after certain particles of matter were activated by an emotional aspect of the logical force.

Continuous changes in Earth’s environment caused life to evolve into many species, including man, who developed an “inner-self” through cultural inner-actions with other people. When a person dies, their inner-self becomes a soul in a spiritual realm of being.

Reason and passion are higher forms of intelligence and emotion that enable human beings to experience the pain and pleasures of physical life, as well as the joy and sorrows of spirituality. Our dual nature also allows us to build a life of our own — within the limits of human culture and the laws of physics.

To some extent, we are the masters of our own destiny because our emotional passion dictates what we care about, and through the use of reason we pursue our hopes and aspirations.

Human culture is guided by spiritual principles, but we also need government laws to help us resolve conflicts, such as school choice and the right to life. Thanks to the Enlightenment, which awakened serious thinkers to our individual rights and religious freedom, we have established a good system of government, as well as a public system of education that works well — when it is adequately funded by our tax money.

As for the right to life, the highest court in the land has ruled that abortion is legal and women have authority over their own bodies. Even though abortion is prohibited by some religions, personal morality is an individual matter, and while morality might be a concern of souls in the afterlife, our laws are concerned with the quality of life on Earth. Even so, it behooves us to work through our personal problems and contribute to the good of our community. Doing so provides individuals with a worthwhile existence, which also insures the survival of humanity.

There are endless possibilities, because everything in the world makes sense at some level, including the idea of reincarnation, which claims that a soul awakens our human self-consciousness with our first breath of air, and then the soul becomes an objective observer of the development and progress of our inner-self during its physical and emotional experience of life on Earth.

Perhaps in the cosmic scheme of things, souls will eventually come to understand the origin and meaning of spirituality by observing the behavior of countless human beings and the changing conditions of life on Earth. In a similar way, after countless generations of acquiring human knowledge and experience, mankind will eventually accept an ideal set of cultural principles that are fair to all, and human individuals will learn to balance their personal rights with their cultural duties.
