To the editor:
Good luck to Barbara Shew next month at the Alaska International Senior Games in Fairbanks! What an attitude and what a life! Thanks also for your wartime service in the Navy. God knows how many servicemen you helped as a corpsman.
In the National Rifle Association’s American Hunter magazine, the column “Armed Citizen” often tells of criminals who accost older people in their homes or elsewhere, assuming that advanced age automatically means easy victim.
They often find that to be a mistake when trained people like Barbara Shew illustrate that the more years a person has behind them, the more time they’ve had to become better and better shots; a lesson learned, I’m sure, by many a game animal, varmint, tin can, range target and criminal.
Thanks for sharing an upside to no longer being a spring chicken, Ms. Shew. My arthritic knees appreciate it!
