Girl killed in accidental shooting

PETERSVILLE -- A 13-year-old girl was killed Friday afternoon when she was accidentally shot by her brother who was cleaning a gun in the family's cabin in the Petersville area.

Kimberly R. Olson was shot in the back with a round from a .44-caliber revolver about 2 p.m., according to a report by Alaska State Troopers. Her 17-year-old brother was cleaning the handgun and told troopers he had finished cleaning it, then put rounds in the cylinder.

Olson was in the loft above her brother when the round hit her. She was taken by helicopter to Talkeetna, where she was pronounced dead by medics.
