Girls basketball: Moose split with NLC rivals; Warriors sweep

KENAI - Kasara Brandenburg collected 21 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Palmer Moose to a 49-43 win over the Kenai Kardinals Saturday in Kenai.

"She really did have a good offensive game," Palmer head coach Paul Reid said by cellphone after the win. "She had a big rebounding game."

Taylor Blake added 15 for the Moose, who rebounded from a tough loss on Friday.

"It was a good solid team effort on defense," Reid said.

Soldotna 58, Palmer 33

SOLDOTNA - Soldotna won a battle of top-5 teams, beating Palmer 58-33 in Northern Lights Conference action Friday at Soldotna.

The Stars, ranked fifth in the latest Alaska Association of Basketball Coaches Poll, grabbed an 18-7 lead over the fourth-ranked Moose in the first quarter, and held a 43-25 advantage by the third.

Kaillee Skjold scored a game-high 25 for Soldotna, while Kelci Benson added 11. Kasara Brandenburg led Palmer with nine points.

Soldotna shot 74 percent from the field.
