PALMER - Despite two disallowed goals and consistently annoying winds, the Wasilla girls soccer squad scored a 1-0 win over Colony at Colony High School on Tuesday.
Junior striker Amanda Dau scored the game-winner to give the Warriors their first victory of the season, and Wasilla goalkeeper Dani Haley earned the shutout with a stellar effort in net.
Nicole Duque and Randi Smith each saw goals taken off the Wasilla scoreboard.
Duque thought she gave the Warriors the 1-0 lead within the first minutes of the game, when she tapped in a long pass from Smith. But Duque's goal was reversed after a controversial offsides call.
Later in the game, Smith knocked a ball away from Colony goalkeeper Katelyn Payne and into the net, but the referee ruled Payne had possession of the ball when play was ruled dead.
Wasilla girls 4, Nikiski 0
Wasilla senior Randi Smith posted a hat trick to lead the Warriors to a 4-0 Northern Lights Conference win over Nikiski at Wasilla High School on Wednesday.
Dani Haley also scored for Wasilla (2-1-0).
Smith notched her first goal by converting a Courtnie Husmann corner kick with a header.
Smith again scored on a breakaway play set up by a pass from Maija Kellner-Rode.
She completed the hat trick by following a through ball.
Haley scored Wasilla's final goal, a play set up by a cross pass from Rachel Kennedy.
Haley and Sammy Becker combined for the shutout in net.
Grace sweeps Houston
The Grace Christian Grizzlies scored a pair of wins over the Houston Hawks at Anchorage Football Stadium on Tuesday.
The Grace girls scored in the final minutes of regulation to secure a 1-0 win over the Hawks, while the Grace boys scored a more comfortable 7-0 victory.
