WASILLA — Alaska State Troopers say a 10-year-old girl was shot while picking berries near the end of Knik-Goose Bay Road.
Trooper spokeswoman Megan Peters said Wednesday morning that any new information on the case wouldn’t come out until after she’d spoken with the investigating officers. Asked whether the shooting was accidental, she said, simply, “It’s under investigation.”
The girl first came to the attention of troopers at 7:10 p.m. Sunday when they were called to Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage for the report of a girl who’d arrived there with a gunshot wound.
“The girl and her family were picking berries near the end of Knik-Goose Bay Road,” when she was shot, according to trooper reports.
Calls to local stores and people turned up no information as to what happened.
