WASILLA - The entire regular season of the Colony Knights basically came down to one week.
Fortunately for Colony, the Knights had a pretty good week.
On Saturday the Knights capped their most important stretch of the regular season with a 2-0 win over the Wasilla Warriors.
With the win, the Knights finish the regular season with a 3-1-0 mark in North Division play of the Northern Lights Conference, and capture the No. 2 seed in the upcoming NLC Tournament.
The final stretch of Colony's regular season featured all of the games that actually count toward the team's conference standings.
The run started with a 1-0 win over Grace Christian on May 10. On May 15, Colony scored a 9-0 win over Houston.
Colony's only blemish was a 1-0 loss to Palmer on Thursday.
“We wanted four (wins). But three is great,” Colony head coach Lorie Miner said. “We'll settle for three.”
Thanks to its one-goal win over Colony, Palmer is the No. 1 seed from the North.
Kara Larson and Jessica Farrell each scored first-half goals for the Knights.
Larson used a header to knock in a Farrell cross in the first 10 minutes of action, Farrell converted a penalty kick in the 19th minute.
The Knights used an aggressive style of play to capture the momentum early.
“We have to come out every game and be aggressive,” Larson said.
Colony has victories in five of its last eight games, thanks to an assortment of adjustments that Miner and assistant coach Ed Powell have made this year.
“There have been major changes from the beginning of the season to this point,” Miner said.
Some of the changes have involved finding the right places of the field for certain players.
Miner said the Knights have moved Larson and the speedy Tara Murray to the outside striker positions. The Knights have also strengthened the defensive back line, Miner said, and seen its young goalkeeper Katelyn Payne prosper in net.
Payne, a freshman, has allowed only one goal in Colony's last four games.
