To the editor:
Hey, Governor, Alaska is not some third world country. Our children are entitled to excellent schools, our people are entitled to excellent medical care, our communities are entitled to sustainable development and our citizens are entitled to a voice in your bureaucratic decisions affecting our future.
We do not need a government crippled by the no-tax wishes of greedy oil companies, mining consortiums and Outside seafood or timber mega-companies. Your new budget reflects your slavish loyalty to Outside extractors whose only goal is to take, take, take of the richness of natural resources we have been fortunate enough to inherit. Corporations may get away with stealing our wealth for a little while longer, but our Alaska Constitution says our resources belong to us, the people. Its time you and your Administration re-read our Constitution and finally begin to govern in our best interest.
Give us a budget that insures a sound future for our great state. We don’t want a budget that takes us down the path to becoming an impoverished, third world nation.
