Glenn and Janet Jacob are celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary from 2 to 4 p.m., June 19 at their home on Esty Drive in Palmer.

Glenn and Janet met in 1984 while they were both working for the Mat-Su Borough School District. Glenn, son of Phil and Trudy Jacob of Corvallis, Ore., came to Alaska in the mid-1970s and began his teaching career in remote communities across Alaska before settling in the Valley. He was the PE teacher at Swanson Elementary for years and taught science at Palmer Junior Middle School for several years.

Janet, daughter of Ruth and Harold Washburn, came to Alaska in 1969, settling in Palmer, where she has been active in the community, United Presbyterian Church and Trinity Lutheran Church. Janet worked 20 years for the Mat-Su school district, working at Sherrod Elementary School and retiring from Palmer High School, where she was always so friendly and helpful to students and faculty.

Both Glenn and Janet are active members of Trinity Lutheran Church, volunteering with the worship team, choir and a host of other events. They volunteer their time with the Palmer Food Bank as well, serving the community they love so much.

Glenn and Janet were blessed with a beautiful daughter 19 years ago, Ruth Marie Elizabeth Jacob. Ruth is a student at Mat-Valley Community College pursuing studies in social work with plans to go into counseling and social work when she graduates.

Janet also has three children from her previous marriage, Matthew Suttle, Audrey Badger and Dianna Darnell. Matthew lives in Traverse City, Mich., working as a subcontractor and painter. Audrey works for MTA and lives in Palmer with her family. Dianna works for the state of Alaska and also lives in Palmer with her family.

Glenn and Janet are blessed as well with grandchildren, from Matthew: son Richard; Audrey: sons Merl Jr., Steven and Eric; and Dianna with two sons: Marshall and Michael. This past year, Glenn and Janet were blessed to see their first great-grandchild born, Bella Marie Aurora, from their daughter Audrey and Merl Badger Sr.’s son, Merl Badger Jr. and his wife, Alyssa.

Glenn and Janet are both retired from the Mat-Su Borough School District. Glenn owns his own investment counseling business in Palmer. They spend their time between gardening, the church, traveling and family gatherings. All family and friends are encouraged and welcome to come join Glenn and Janet at their home on Esty Drive in Palmer on June 19. Family and friends will be gathered to wish them another wonderful and blessed 25 years.
