Glenn Highway reopened

The Glenn Highway reopened shortly after 10 p.m. Sunday, March 25, after a five day closure following a bridge strike and damage to the northernmost Eagle River bridge girder.

Alaska DOT&PF and contractor Sandstrom & Sons, Inc have completed removing the damaged girder, and installing new safety rails and pavement markings on the Artillery overpass. Crews finished removing the second half of the girder early Sunday morning around 1 a.m. Debris removal and equipment demobilization took place Sunday afternoon.

DOT&PF staff extends a thank you to the community for their patience while we removed the damaged span, and to the Anchorage Police Department and Municipality of Anchorage for assistance during this event.

The department expects the Monday morning commute to proceed as normal.
