Gold Miner’s played out for now

PALMER — The state fire marshal’s office has closed the Gold Miner’s Hotel citing violations of fire code.

“The Gold Miner’s will not be reopened until another inspection confirms that all violations have been corrected,” said Megan Peters, spokeswoman for the Alaska Department of Public Safety.

“We are shut down for a period of time to renovate,” said Tory Maul, the hotel’s manager. “We apologize to our customers, but it is to make a better, safer building.”

Peters said deputy fire marshal John Bond had inspected the building, acting on a tip that construction underway at the hotel that had not gone through the planning review process.

At the hotel, Bond found numerous violations “dealing with fire and life safety issues,” Peters said.

The hotel sits on Colony Way in downtown Palmer.
