PALMER — Palmer took to the ice against the Bartlett Bears for the first time this season, resulting in a drawn out 3-2 loss in overtime for the Moose.
The Moose came out playing their best in the first period, but it was Bartlett that put the first goal on the board halfway through the period. Palmer quickly responded with freshman forward Hayden Moistner putting the puck in the net, assisted by junior captain Jacob Inukai and sophomore defenseman Sam Riopelle. The first period ended 1-1.
Within the first minute of the second period, Bartlett caught Palmer off guard and put up another goal. Again playing catch-up, Palmer came back with another goal from a freshman forward, this Josh Meyers, who scored with another assist from Inukai.
The third period showed no difference in play from either team and remained tied, forcing the game into overtime. With four minutes left in the extra period, Bartlett ended the game with a goal and snagged the 3-2 win. Palmer out-shot the Bears 48 to 36.
“I thought we started out better than we ended,” said Palmer goalkeeper Ashton Good. “What hurt us was our defense and the transition to offense. We played far better in their zone than we did in our own.”
Head coach Brad Hanson had no comment on the game.
