PALMER — Numerous community members gathered at the Skeetawk Ski Area to enjoy live music during the Rail Jam Concert Saturday, April 6.
Black Water Railroad Company and Zen Trembles performed throughout the event which also featured food and ample opportunities for skiers and snowboarders to utilize the only ski lift in the Mat-Su Valley. Skeetawk general manager Megan Justus said that she was thrilled to showcase local talent while offering a fun and social setting for visitors.
“It was great show… Good music, good food, and good vibes," Justus said.
The Rail Jam Concert served as a fundraising event. Proceeds went toward Skeetawk’s ongoing efforts to raise enough funds to install a specialized surface lift that’s designed to help beginner and adaptive skiers and snowboarders, according to Justus. She said that she was happy with the overall turnout and number of people willing to aid their cause.
“It was nice for people to learn about the project and show their support. They were ready to give,” Justus said.
Justus said the surface lift project is a vital long term investment.
“It’s extremely important. Most of our customers are beginners… We want to give them the tools to set them up for success. We want to give them the best quality we can for instruction,” Justus said.
The Skeetawk ski and snowboard season ends soon but there will be plenty to do at the venue throughout the summer, according to Justus. She said they’re hosting a variety of events such as Valley Community Recycling Solutions’ annual Recycle Revival music festival June 2.
“It will be a fun day," Justus said.
