WASILLA — Some 130 people from California, Illinois, Washington and 18 Alaska communities will participate in the annual Synod Assembly of 32 Evangelical Lutheran Churches of Alaska April 24-26 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Wasilla.
Alaska Synod Bishop Shelley Wickstrom will preside over the three-day event, with the purpose of gathering and conducting the business and continuation of faith of the Evangelical Lutheran Churches of the Alaska Lutheran Church.
The conference, titled “Hunger: The Fast I Chose,” will focus on world hunger with an emphasis on solving hunger issues through the sharing of individual church involvement.
Rev. Daniel Rift is the Director of the World Hunger and Lutheran Disaster Appeal for the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. He will honor Alaskan artist Marianne Wieland for her generosity in supporting hunger relief.
Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Wasilla will open their church for the entire event, and will serve meals in its newly remodeled commercial kitchen.
Attendees will enjoy the many amenities offered throughout the Mat-Su Valley, and local businesses are encouraged to show them the hospitality for which the Valley is known.
