WASILLA — The Palmer Moose skated to a lopsided win over the West Anchorage Eagles just more than two weeks ago.
With West Palmer’s opponent again on Thursday, the Moose started right back were they left off.
Palmer senior captain Ivan Good scored 13 seconds into regulation, and the Moose cruised to a 4-0 win over the Eagles during the first round of the Curtis C. Menard II Memorial Hockey Tournament at the Curtis C. Menard II Memorial Ice Arena in Wasilla.
Junior Blake Brazil tallied two goals and an assist and sophomore goaltender Ashton Good made 22 saves to earn the shutout in the Moose net.
Palmer head coach Brad Hanson said he felt like the Moose controlled play for the most part and didn’t want to let down after skating to a 7-2 win over the same Eagles this season.
“We want to show them we’re ready to play, we’re hungry,” Hanson said.
Hanson said he saw different things from the Eagles.
“I think they’ve improved since we played them,” Hanson said.
The Eagles did manage 22 shots on goal, but couldn’t sneak a puck past Good, who recorded the second shutout of his sophomore season. Good and the Moose also blanked North Pole 7-0 last weekend in the Interior.
The Moose scored early and often the last time they played the Eagles, but needed only 13 seconds to post the game-winner Thursday.
On the first shift of the game, Good won the face-off, and led a rush down the ice. Good and Brazil each put themselves in position around the net, and Good got credit for the goal.
“It was a nice play,” Hanson said.
Sophomore Jacob Inukai, who scored twice during a 5-2 win over Eagle River on Tuesday, beat West goalie Darien Dahl just four minutes later to give Palmer the 2-0 lead.
Brazil added a score early in the second and iced the game with an empty-netter late in the third. Good recorded an assist on both Brazil goals.
Palmer now moves into the tournament semifinals and will play host Houston tonight at 7:15 p.m. at the Menard Arena.
