“It does not immediately appear that there is anything suspicious about Southhall’s death,” the state Department of Corrections said in a press release on Wednesday.
Southhall had been in DOC custody since March 17, 2016, for resisting arrest and criminal
mischief.
This is the sixth death in DOC custody this year.
“Every prisoner death is reviewed by the Alaska State Troopers and the Medical Examiner’s
Office,” the press release said. “The Department’s Professional Conduct Unit will also conduct an internal investigation. Department records are generally not subject to release because they contain confidential medical, security and personnel information.”
