Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

In the 1930s, our government started a plan to help those who had no means of work to support themselves. It was intended for those who were desolate, especially single mothers and the elderly. This plan was called Welfare.
Other social services have since sprung up all over America, and over time these services have changed their initiative of supporting the desolate to supporting anyone who knows how to play the system. In fact, Americans are no longer encouraged to work hard anymore; instead, they are encouraged to work as little as possible so they can get government help. You can’t qualify? Well, perhaps you should not work as much. I am not accusing the people, I am accusing the system of training an entire nation to exchange good, old-fashioned work for government aid.
It used to be that if people worked hard to better themselves they were rewarded. Our nation now encourages people to believe they deserve dependency on the government, which, by the way, has no more funds. How frustrating when you are working hard to pay your medical bills, your house payments; your education and living expenses only to know that John Doe down the street gets all of it free because he “qualifies.”
Do you realize our government is trillions of dollars in debt? Do not be fooled. There is no more money for social services and our Social Security is running dry. Our government is living in extreme debt and yet politicizing to give away more funds. If you are part of the American working class you are actually the group that is chastised for excelling. Who do you think is paying for these privileges for the underprivileged the government deems qualified?
You are — the working American taxpayer.
