PALMER — According to Mat-Su Borough officials, the entire Government Peak Recreation Area including trails, chalet, parking lot and access road will be closed to the public Tuesday and Wednesday
The gate at the bottom of the hill will be locked all day on both days and only access to borough staff and its contractors will be allowed. The recreation area will be closed for public safety reasons due to construction activities that will involve helicopter operations throughout the recreation area to lift and install light poles. Trails will be opened again once helicopter operations are complete and crews on the ground have secured the poles in place. Work is expected to last all of two days.
Helicopter operations and pole installation are weather dependent. Mostly sunny skies are expected.
