Governor Dunleavy proclaims October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Governor Mike Dunleavy has proclaimed October 2023 as Domestic Violence Awareness Month in Alaska.

Approximately 1 in 4 women and 1 in 7 men in the United States have been victims of domestic violence and over 15.5 million children are exposed to domestic violence every year.

One in three adult women in Alaska have been victims of stalking in their lifetime and one in nine Alaskan women 60 years of age or older experienced psychological or physical abuse in the past year.

“Communities across the state are building prevention teams and implementing projects such as Green Dot AK, Girls on the Run, and Coaching Boys into Men, to stop domestic violence and build a safer future for Alaskans,” said Governor Dunleavy in a press release. “By taking a firm stance against domestic violence through words and actions, Alaskans can foster strong partnerships among various community groups, businesses and organizations rooted in government, education, and faith.”
