Grant funds offered for conservation projects

PALMER — Pre-proposals are due July 14 for a new USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service grant — called the Regional Conservation Partnership Program — that can benefit stream habitat, wildlife habitat and flood control in Alaska.

The program will competitively award $400 million in funds to conservation projects designed by local partners. Eligible partners include private companies, universities, nonprofit organizations, local and tribal governments, and district governments.

Conservation work could involve culvert replacement for fish passage, habitat management for wildlife, and flood control structures.

The program will direct 25 percent of funds to state-level projects.

USDA is now accepting proposals for this program. Pre-proposals are due July 14, and full proposalS are due Sept. 26.
