Great time at school

To the editor:

Opening a new school is exciting as well as stressful. As the fifth-grade teachers of Machetanz Elementary, we found out that no matter how challenging a new school can be, when you have community and family members supporting you, anything is possible.

We were very fortunate to work with incredible families that were ready to help out whenever we needed. It was only with that type of unconditional support that we were able to host a fun-filled lock-in for our students to celebrate their successes throughout the school year.

We would like to say thank you to all our parents, staff members and local businesses that donated time, prizes or words of wisdom that enabled our students to have a wonderful celebration. We could not have done it without you.

These businesses specifically donated items for our celebration: Jalapenos Restaurant, Fruitland and Tailgaters, thank you for the gift certificates. Mat-Su Family Health’s donation helped us to purchase door prizes for students. Rosie and Jose Carter at Tacos Cancun Restaurant, we cannot thank you enough for providing a wonderful dinner for the parents and chaperones. Thank you to everyone who made our first year at Machetanz Elementary a resounding success.
