The family of Robert and Christine Greig are pleased to announce their upcoming 50th wedding anniversary and invite you to participate by sending a card of congratulations to 8230 E. Aspen Ridge Road, Wasilla, AK 99654.

Robert (Bob) and Christine, nee Carothers, were married in Santa Ana, Calif., on Nov. 29, 1963. Bob was a farm boy from Ohio who joined the Marines. He and Christine met on a blind date arranged by Bob’s cousin while he was stationed at the Marine Corp Air Station, El Toro, near Irvine, Calif.

After fulfilling Bob’s military commitment in 1964, they moved to Ohio, bought a farm and set about raising their family, which grew to include one son and five daughters, Mark, Rebekah, Sarah, Kate, Abigail and Stephanie. After the birth of their youngest daughter in 1979, they sold their Ohio farm and relocated the to the Mat-Su Borough.

Their Alaska roots have grown deep. In 1990, they purchased raw land and worked hard to develop it into a place to continue their passion for “feeding the soil to feed the plant,” the logo they chose for Alaska Sea-Ag, the organic fish bonemeal and potato business they built together. Each summer they grew a large organic garden and enjoyed blessing many people with nutrient-dense organic vegetables, in addition to the acres of organic potatoes Bob grew and marketed in local stores. Christine also spent many hours tirelessly soil testing and consulting in order to help others build their soils into healthy environments able to grow the best nutrient-dense foods possible.

Their Christian faith has been a dominant focus in their marriage and they’ve lived it through action. Being known as “Mom and Dad” to many more than their own, their love and commitment have gone far and they have never turned a blind eye to someone in need. They’ve impacted many through their community involvements.

For more than 20 years, Bob was known and loved as the resident “shot doctor” to the local high school girls basketball teams. He enjoyed coaching immensely, and it was very fulfilling to him to see “his girls” improve. Christine is well known for her fierce advocacy of holistic, healthy living and whole foods. Her passion instilled a desire and love for whole foods in her six children, and she’s known to many as someone who is a wealth of information who gives freely of what she knows.

In 2007, Bob was diagnosed with Lewy body dementia. The past few years have been challenging.

His sickness forced their retirement in 2011. The following year brought more change as they moved to a home more suited to his needs. Bob’s health continues to decline.

Their 50th anniversary will be a quiet celebration at their daughter’s home with family.

Again, the family invites all to participate in this celebration by sending a card of congratulations to 8230 E. Aspen Ridge Road, Wasilla, AK 99654. It would mean the world to them to hear from so many they love and care about on this anniversary.
