Gun possession nets 4-year prison term

ANCHORAGE — A man arrested on drunken driving and weapons possession charges in Wasilla two years ago has been sentenced to serve time in federal prison.

The U.S. Attorney’s office announced Friday that Lucas Charles Greenwood, 29, of Anchorage, was sentenced Thursday to serve four years and three months in prison for being a felon in possession of guns.

Greenwood was pulled over in September 2009, according to an Alaska State Troopers report from the time. He was charged with drunken driving, weapons misconduct and driving on a revoked license.

The U.S. Attorney’s office said the weapon in question was an “assault-style rifle” and that in addition to possessing it as a felon he didn’t immediately tell troopers it was there.

The press release goes on to say his rap sheet includes convictions for drug misconduct, assault, disorderly conduct, trespassing in a vehicle, violating the conditions of his release and refusing a breathalyzer. A number of those also originate in the Valley because a month prior to the drunken driving arrest, Greenwood drove his GMC Jimmy off the road at Trunk Road and Palmer-Wasilla Highway, hit the ditch and rolled.

That case also turned into a drunken driving arrest. Greenwood was also charged with disorderly conduct and assault after he allegedly fought with troopers trying to arrest him.

“Greenwood has twice been arrested as a fugitive from other jurisdictions. The prosecution noted at sentencing that, in addition to Greenwood’s criminal convictions, he has a pattern of threatening members of law enforcement and their family members when arrested,” according to the press release.
