It’s no secret that people love putting their most beautiful face forward and the care and styling of hair is no exception. In a competitive market, finding the right salon with the right stylists who help to make sure clients put their best hair forward can be tough. But it’s something that the Hair and Color Bar Beauty Salon works to provide.
The salon, located in the heart of Wasilla, recently celebrated its 4th anniversary.
“It doesn’t seem like 4 years at all. It’s been really going so fast,” says salon owner Olivia Arrieta. The salon boasts a warm and inviting space that embraces the idea that everyone is beautiful. In addition to a wide array of services, the salon also carries organic, vegan hair and skin products.
The salon opened in March of 2020, right before the COVID-19 pandemic forced businesses to shut, and while many others were forced to close, she and her staff have been able to keep clients styling.
“We had opened two weeks before COVID, and then to shut down, it was scary. But we pushed through. It was rough, but we’re still here.”
There have been other challenges Arrieta and her staff have had to contend with, mainly the increases in prices for products across the board.
“The increases have really had an impact, and I feel like that is deterred people from coming in.”
She says one of the perks, besides helping clients look their best, is the freedom that comes with owning her own business.
“It’s not always easy, but the freedom of having my own schedule, and having a safe space here, where people can express themselves is truly a blessing.” She says that aside from cuts, colors, and blowouts, provide a space where people can unwind and connect is a service she happily provides.
“Just having someone you can talk with, be comfortable with and connect with is something extra that we are here for. We connect with people every day, all day. We make connections, we make friends.”
And what style trend does Arrieta people should be looking out for the rest of 2024?
“The ‘90s. I feel like they are back and going to be in for a long time. The Jennifer Aniston haircut (aka ‘the Rachel’) and big hair will all be the thing. And also embracing your natural texture is also huge.”
As for the future, Arrieta is looking forward to another successful 4 years.
