To the editor,
The debate: amusing, especially regards candidate Vern Halter.
In his own words, he stands for keeping to the Borough’s cap on Mill Rate increases, people before politics, Vern as Vern, without party affiliation, “just me.”
Sounds good, but what’s reality? An example: Willow voters soundly rejected a large tax levy increase in a 2012 referendum. Obeying the lobby financing him, Vern found a lawyer’s way around the Borough cap and unilaterally pushed through a 105 percent tax increase!
Listening to folks with a different opinion, (on this and the insane boondoggle of three new fire stations for little Willow)? Don’t even try (personal experience).
I’m concerned that Halter would push Mat-Su in the direction of “California-style
Tax and Spend.” Better to stick with reliable Larry DeVilbiss!
