Longtime Valley resident Harry G. Davis, 74, died at home Oct. 2, 2010.
He was born July 11, 1936, in St. Maries, Idaho and graduated from Kingston High School in Kingston, Idaho, where he met his longtime wife, Beverly Calvert. They were married in 1955 in Kellogg, Idaho, and proceeded to have a son, Kirk, daughter, Tammi, and son, Todd.
Harry and his family then moved to Renton, Wash., until 1972, when the family headed north to Alaska. Harry started working construction operating heavy equipment on the North Slope of Alaska and was joined by his son Todd, who worked closely with him until Harry retired in 2006.
In the late 1970s while working in the construction field, Harry and his good friend Al Wattula from Kellogg tried their hand at gold mining at a claim in the Hatcher Pass area.
Harry was an avid football player in his youth, was chosen captain of his high school football team and was also a young golfer tearing up the Pinehurst Golf Course in Pinehurst, Idaho. He continued to enjoy golf and watching football in his later years. Harry was always eager for a game of chess with his daughter-in-law, Nell, or a round of golf with his son-in-law, Tiny. Harry was a member of Palmer Elks Lodge 1842 and thoroughly delighted in the Lodge’s semi-annual Oyster Feed and other events.
Harry was preceded in death by his son, Kirk Davis, and wife Beverly. He is survived by his daughter, Tammi (Richard “Tiny”) Fagg; son, Todd (Nell) Davis; granddaughters, Jodie Chiodo and Briley Davis; grandsons James Chiodo, James (Jamie) Huddleston, Alan (Esther) Huddleston; and great grandchildren, Kalen, Talia and Jayden.
“Harry will be sorely missed by his family, the ‘over the hill gang’ of golfing buddies, friends and many single older women in the Mat-Su area who loved to chase Harry,” the family wrote.
A celebration of life for Harry will be announced at a later date. For information on this or to send condolences, contact the family at harrydavismemorial@yahoo.com. The family requests no flowers be sent, but instead please make donations to the American Cancer Society.
