HATCHER PASS — Though the avalanche warning for Hatcher Pass issued by the Hatcher Pass Avalanche Center expired on Tuesday at 7 a.m., Hatcher Pass Road remains closed by the Department of Transportation and Public Facilities at mile 10 of Palmer-Fishhook Road.

The DOTPF posted drone footage taken from Hatcher Pass that shows major avalanches that crossed the upper road. The post says that the numerous avalanches cover approximately 2,400 feet of road and the depth is an average of six feet. It is not yet safe enough for DOTPF heavy equipment operators to begin clearing debris and estimates are that it will take three days once avalanche specialists give the all-clear to finish removing snow from the roadway.
