Allen Wood, 5, and sister Acacia, 7, talk with Iditarod champion Dick Mackey Thursday afternoon at the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race headquarters in Wasilla. Mackey won the 1978 Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race by beating Rick Swenson by 1 second in the closest Iditarod finish in the race’s history. Mackey was at the headquarters telling stories of the sled dog race and autographing copies of Lew Freedman’s book “One Second to Glory: The Adventures of Iditarod Champion Dick Mackey.”
