To the editor:
As a member of the Wasilla Area Seniors Inc. (WASI) I have appreciated, until recently, the coverage the Frontiersman has given to the issues surrounding WASI and its membership.
Your coverage has been fair, unbiased and reflected the positions of all sides regarding the WASI organization. In the last two weeks the Frontiersman has been muted on this ongoing controversy. Most importantly, you did not have a reporter present at the membership meeting on Tuesday.
This meeting, and a subsequent gathering of those members who attempted to attend the meeting, should have been covered on-site by one of your reporters. Many of the members of WASI believe that the Mat-Su general public should be made aware of the contention of issues between membership and the WASI management.
On the WASI campus today there was a consensus among many members that the Frontiersman has been silent on recent coverage because of WASI management’s threats of libel litigation against the paper. In the interest of the public’s right to be informed about local news events, I certainly hope this is not the case.
