The Houston Hawk boys' basketball squad posted a 46-42 upset of 4A North Pole during the final day of the Palmer Elks Showdown at Palmer High School on Saturday.
A well-rounded scoring effort by the Hawks, a 3A program, led to the winner over the Patriots. Donovan Parker scored all of his five points in the fourth quarter as Houston outscored the Pats 19-10 in the frame.
Quentin Veit and Aaron Conn each scored seven points to lead the Hawks. Kaden Shumway added five points.
West Valley edges Palmer; Moose top North Pole
Despite 22 points from Palmer's David Doerr, the West Valley Wolfpack defeated Palmer 52-48 in the Elks Showdown on Saturday.
West Valley trailed by four points going into the fourth quarter, but managed to outscore the Moose 16-8 in the final frame.
West Valley improved to 3-0 with the win and won the boys' class of the Showdown.
On Friday, Aaron Kohring scored 18 points to lead the Moose to a 50-41 win over North Pole. Eight different players scored for Palmer.

After defeating Houston to open the Elks Showdown, Palmer fell to West Valley and North Pole in the final two days of the tournament.
On Friday, North Pole topped Palmer 50-24 and West Valley defeated Palmer 54-42 on Saturday.
Brittany Heck led the Moose with 15 points in the loss to North Pole.
The Houston girls also were defeated by West Valley and North Pole in the tournament.
Warrior girls post big win
The Wasilla girls used a 17-3 third-quarter run to defeat Bartlett 57-29 in Anchorage on Saturday.
Megan Steerman led Wasilla with 11 points in the win. Anne Wesser added 10.
The stingy Wasilla defense allowed Bartlett to hit double digits in just the fourth quarter.
Dimond spoils

In their first action of the season, the Wasilla boys fell to Dimond 65-60 at Wasilla High School on Friday.
Warren Lewis scored a game-high 29 points for Dimond.
Jesse Bean and Luke Schafer each scored 13 points for Wasilla.
The 2004-05 prep basketball season just started, but it is already time for the holiday break. While some teams will travel to tournaments outside Alaska during the holidays, most will not return to action until early January. The Wasilla boys will travel to a tournament in Midland, Texas this month. The Colony girls go to San Harcos, Calif. and the Knight boys hit the Paintsville Hoops Classic in Kentucky.
