WASILLA — With the Kachemak Conference Championships just a wee away, the Houston Hawks enjoyed a strong performance at the Glennallen Invitational last week at Glennallen High School.
Dylan Jackson used his win in the heavyweight class to help the Hawks place third in the team standings with 127.5 total points. Houston finished one point shy of second-place Bethel. Host Glennallen won the tourney with 145 points.
Jackson pinned his way en route to finishing first in the 285-pound class, and was one of five Hawks to reach the finals.
“We are confident our team is peaking at the right time for regionals this weekend,” Houston assistant coach Danny Moffitt said in an email. “I would look to see many of these wrestlers advance to the state tournament if their performance continues.”
Kyle Anderson (138 pounds), Lane Guim (145), Robert Ritter (195) and Malaki Barrett (220) also advanced to the finals for the Hawks, and finished second. Jens Knutson (120) and Daniel O’Conner (152) each finished third for Houston.
The Redington Huskies also placed a pair of wrestlers. Jonah Dobbs led the Huskies with a third-place finish. Ollie Severance was fourth at 170.
Houston and Redington will both compete in the Kachemak Conference Championships, which start Friday at Anchorage Christian School.
