Hawks aim for playoffs

The Houston Hawks are just one win away from only their second berth in school history.

Just like Palmer, Wasilla and Colony, the Hawks have more than one playoff

scenario.

The simplest insurance for a playoff berth would be a win over Anchorage Christian School tonight.

The top two schools in the Greatland Conference will advance to the 3A state playoffs.

Even if the Hawks fall to ACS, there is still hope.

For at least a weekend, the Hawks will be Nikiski Bulldog fans. This is because regardless of what happens in the Houston-ACS contest, if Nikiski wins, Houston is in.

This is based on Houston's 60-0 win over Seward.

It would become much more complicated if Seward and Houston were to both win.

If Seward beats Nikiski and Houston defeats ACS, Seward, Houston and Nikiski would each have a 3-1 record.

According to the Greatland Conference bylaws there are only two set tiebreakers.

The first is head-to-head competition, in which the teams are even.

The second is common opponents, in which the teams are again, even.

A three-way tie at 3-1 would come down to a possible coin flip.

The first seed in the Greatland Conference will take on the second seed of the Northern Lights Conference and vice versa.

Kenai and Soldotna are playing this weekend with the Northern Lights Conference title on the line.
