The Houston Hawks bounced back from a string of tough losses with a 20-6 win over Kodiak Friday night at Houston High School.
Elias Johnson ran for a touchdown and threw another to help the Hawks improve to 2-4 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
Johnson, a senior running back, was part of a pivotal play in the game. With the score tied at 6, Johnson took a pitch to the left, and set up a throw. Johnson connected with receiver Koko Su'a on a 53-yard scoring pass to give the Hawks the lead.
Later in the game the Houston defense recovered a Bears fumble in the end zone to push the advantage to 20-6.
Kodiak took an early 6-0 lead in the game. Johnson used a 10-yard touchdown run to tie it a 6 late in the first quarter.
Kodiak stays at home and will host Barrow Sept. 26 before closing the regular season at rival Redington.
