NIKISKI — The Houston boys and girls basketball squads opened Nikiski Tip-Off play with victories Thursday night at Nikiski High School.
Matt Barron poured in 24 points to lead the boys to a 60-38 win over Kotzebue. Barron scored 13 points in the first half and hit a pair of three-pointers. Mitchell Ruta drained a trio of three-pointers and scored 11 points. Samuel Brandt added eight points.
Ne Ne Hale scored a game-high 14 points to lead the Houston girls to a 29-20 win over Eagle River. Savannah Wells added seven for the Hawks.
The Houston boys and girls each face Dillingham today in Nikiski.
