Hawks earn lopsided win at North Pole

NORTH POLE — The Houston Hawks recorded their second lopsided victory in as many nights, beating North Pole 6-1 at the Polar Ice Arena in North Pole on Friday.

Senior Jake Wells netted the hat trick during the victory. Jon Lovelace, Mikey Spidal and Zach Lovelace also scored for the Hawks.

Wells, Jon Lovelace, Lane Styers, Denis Natekin, Anahu Kinney and Cody Lipse grabbed assists for Houston.

Aaron Allred stopped 15 shots in the win.

Houston and North Pole are Mid-Alaska Conference rivals, but this was classified as a nonconference game.

The Hawks and Patriots are still in a battle for the MAC’s fourth region tournament berth. That could be decided when the Hawks return to North Pole during the final weekend of the regular season for a conference match.

Houston started its road trip with a 7-3 win over Delta in Delta Junction on Thursday.

Lipse finished with a hat trick for the Hawks. Wells, Jon Lovelace, Johan Shuey and Brad Fortin also scored for the 4A Hawks against the 3A defending state champions.
