WASILLA — With a big day in Seward, the Houston Hawks made school history.
Houston used a 44-6 victory over the Seward Seahawks in the small-schools state semifinals Saturday to advance to a prep football state championship game for the first time ever.
Paul Sanderlin tossed a pair of touchdown passes, and Vanu Mose and Ben Pelesasa each rushed for scores to help Houston, the No. 2 seed from the Aurora Conference, improve to 7-2 overall, and move forward to the final. Next up for the Hawks is Aurora rival Eielson, which beat Nikiski 70-12 in the other small-schools semifinal.
Houston is in the postseason for the first time as a small-schools program, after dropping from the medium-schools class prior to the 2015 season. Houston is also in the postseason for the first time since 2013, and just the fourth time since 2005.
