Fueled by the hot shooting of Cole Taylor, the Houston Hawks flew to an 84-17 win over the North Pole Patriots Feb. 27 at Houston High School.
Taylor hit eight three-pointers in the win, and finished 8 of 10 from beyond the arc. Taylor scored a game-high 26 points in the victory. Braden Cork added 16 points and a team-high four rebounds.
As a team, Houston shot 64 percent from the field.
Earlier in the day, the Houston girls beat North Pole 49-27. Emily Bitler led Houston with a double-double, collecting 23 points and 13 rebounds. Denali Whitted added six.
The Houston girls scored a big Southcentral Conference win, edging Grace Christian 33-31 Feb. 28 in Anchorage.
Emily Bitler notched a double-double for her second straight game. She finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Denali Whitted added seven points.
The Grace boys got past Houston 71-51. Cody Wyrick led Houston with a dozen. Landon Taylor added eight.
The Lathrop girls capped their three-day stay in the Valley with a 67-20 win Feb. 29 at Palmer. Lathrop finished 2-1 in the Valley, scoring wins over Colony and Palmer. Wasilla beat Lathrop Feb. 28.
Thunder Mountain earned a two-game nonconference home sweep of Wasilla over the weekend in Juneau. The Falcons edged Wasilla 37-36 Feb. 28, and got past the Warriors 56-36 Feb. 29.
Redington suffered a pair of nonconference losses in Kodiak over the weekend. Kodiak beat the Huskies 64-32 Feb. 28. Ruben Bond scored a dozen. The Bears beat Redington 51-12 the following afternoon.
