HOMER — The Houston Hawks are liking life in the Northern Lights Conference.
Houston, in its first year in the NLC after moving from the Greatland Conference, is now 2-0 in conference play after a 40-8 win over Homer at Homer High School on Saturday.
“We know we can play here and it makes us feel good,” Houston head coach Norm Bouchard said.
Houston senior Jordan Webb finished 16-of-25 with 242 yards passing and four touchdowns to lead the unbeaten Hawks to their third win of the season.
“We were able to throw the ball early,” Bouchard said. “The first half we came out and were able to beat them on the corner, spread the field and that set up the run.”
Senior wide receiver Bryan Mason posted a game-high nine catches for 156 yards and two touchdowns. Senior flanker Daniel Munoz added four catches for 69 yards and a score.
Senior Kyle Sumner led the Hawks on the ground with 122 yards on 13 tries. Fullbacks Micah Ranum and Anthony Origer both scored touchdowns.
Houston is now 3-0 after victories over Delta, Skyview and Homer.
“We’re right were we hoped we’d be,” Bouchard said. “But we know we have a tough schedule in front of us.”
Houston hosts Ketchikan next week at Terry Shurtleff field in a nonconference matches that precedes dates with two-time defending state champion Soldotna, Kenai, Wasilla and Kodiak, the 2007 state small-schools runner-up.
“We’ve got a tough second half,” Bouchard said. “But I’m proud of my kids and what they’ve done so far.”
