Hawks hockey squad caps Homer tourney with win

HOMER — The Houston Hawks capped the End of the Road Shootout with a 5-1 win over Bartlett during the final day of the tournament in Homer Saturday.

Tristan Hracha bagged two goals and an assist to lead the 3A Hawks to the win over 4A Bartlett. Reed Humphreys, Noah Gillespie and Mikey Spidal also scored for Houston.

Aaron Allred stopped 17 shots in two periods to earn the win for the Hawks. Caleb Beauvais stopped four shots for Houston in the third period.

After the teams skated through a scoreless first period, Hracha posted the first of his two goals at the 12:59 mark of the second period. Hracha also scored about five minutes into the third period.

Humphreys gave the Hawks the 2-0 lead with an unassisted tally about three minutes after Hracha’s first goal.

Bartlett didn’t find the back of the net until the 1:35 mark of the third.

Houston started the four-team tourney 0-2 before its win over the Golden Bears. Friday, Anton Kuzmin scored twice to lead host Homer to a 3-1 win over Houston. Kyle Quincy scored for the Hawks.

Homer outshot Houston 44-20 in the game. Allred came up with 41 saves for the Hawks. Seventeen of those saves came in the first period.

Thursday, the Soldotna Stars used five goals in the third period to grab a 9-6 win over Houston during the first day of the End of the Road tourney.

Led Bradley Fortin, Houston took a 5-4 lead into the third. Fortin scored two of his game-high four goals in the second period to help the Hawks take the lead. Fortin finished with five points (four goals, one assist) in the loss. Hracha and Quincy also scored in the game.

Soldotna, a 4A team from the North Star Conference, outshot the 3A Hawks 43-16 in the game.
