Hawks score win over West Valley

Led by their defense, the Houston Hawks held on to score a 14-8 win over the West Valley Wolfpack Friday in Fairbanks.

The Wolfpack had the ball in the red zone late in the game, but the Division III Hawks kept Division II West Valley out of the end zone. The Hawks also had a big goal line stand at the end of the first half.

Quarterback Carter Seime threw a pair of touchdown passes to lead the Hawks offense. Keldin Nicoll caught two passes for 41 yards and a touchdown. Taki Allen added a 20-yard scoring catch. Seime threw for 115 yards in the win.

Elias Johnson led the Hawks with 56 yards on the ground.

Houston improved to 3-1. The victory also marked Houston’s first win over West Valley in school history.

In another game Friday in the Fairbanks area, North Pole scored in the final seconds to edge Wasilla 22-21. Wasilla is now 2-2. North Pole improved to 1-3.

In other Division II action, Eagle River beat Palmer 22-14 Friday night at Machetanz Field in Palmer. Eagle River is now 4-0. Palmer dropped to 1-3.

Kodiak edged Redington 28-24 in Kodiak, in a battle of Division III squads. Kodiak is 1-3, and Redington is now 0-4.

Division I Colony also fell on the road, suffering a 31-23 loss at South Anchorage. The Knights are 2-2. South is 1-3.
