Houston used an early lead to get past Palmer 3-1 in a match featuring two of the top Division II squads in the state, Saturday at the MTA Events Center in Palmer.
Afanasy Efimov scored twice in the win. Daniel Matveev also scored for the Hawks. Efimov’s goals came in the first and third periods. Matveev gave Houston a 1-0 lead at the 5:24 mark of the first.
Palmer tallied a power play goal in the second period.
Earlier last week, Division I Chugiak needed extra time to sneak past Palmer 2-1 Wednesday Jan. 10 at the McDonald Arena in Eagle River.
Kaleb Von Gunten scored with 14 seconds left in regulation to force overtime. Zidane Dietz grabbed the assist.
Palmer outshot Chugiak 38-20 in the loss. Keagon O’Bryan made 18 saves. Chugiak netted the game-winner with 1:59 left in extra time.
