HOMER -- The Houston Hawks improved to 11-2-1 overall and 5-0 in Greatland Conference play with a pair of wins over the Homer Mariners at the Kenai Sports Center last weekend.
One night after skating to a 2-2 tie with Kenai, the fifth-ranked large school team in the state, Houston put a beating on the Mariners, routing the Peninsula squad 9-2.
The Hawks scored seven times in the second period, getting two goals each from both Wade Williams and Rick Morlock.
Williams notched a hat trick and both players registered four points in the game.
Emery Boehm, Chad Lipse, Jimmy Estes and Chad McClurg also scored.
Joe Current stopped 14 shots to earn the win.
On Saturday Williams scored three goals for the second straight night to lead Houston to a 6-2 win over Homer. Estes, Roy Stull and Devin Styers also lit the lamp.
Paul Sutton-Jones stopped 25 of 27 Mariner shots he faced.
The Hawks are perfect against 3A competition this season and 4-2-1 against large school programs this season. Houston's only losses came in a 2-1 decision to Chugiak and a 5-4 overtime loss against East.
Houston is idle for the holiday break and returns to action Jan. 9 against Wasilla at the Brett Memorial Ice Arena.
