HOUSTON — Ne Ne Hale and Savannnah Wells combined for 13 of Houston’s 17 first-quarter points to help spark the Hawks early in a 59-32 Southcentral Conference win over Homer Friday at Houston High.
Hale hit a three-pointer and scored eight of her game-high 26 points in the opening quarter. Wells added five of her 14 during the first.
Hale hit a trio of three-pointers during the Houston win, and also grabbed a game-best nine steals. Wells shot 6 of 9 from the floor, and finished with 14 points and three steals.
Homer was held to only eight total points in the first half and scored single digits in three of the four quarters.
In the boys game, Houston used a big second-half effort to earn a 61-45 win over Homer. Matt Barron scored 22 of his game-high 27 points during the final two quarters. Houston scored 41 of its 61 points in the second half.
Lane Taylor added 10 points in the win. Barron also snagged 11 steals.
Sam Reinert posted a double-double, 10 points and 10 rebounds, for the Mariners. Sheldon Hutt scored a game-high 13 points.
