Hawks sweep Monroe

FAIRBANKS -- The Houston Hawk hockey squad continued its tradition of slaughtering fellow Great Land Conference opponents with a two-game sweep of Monroe Catholic in Fairbanks last weekend.

Houston opened with a 7-2 win in a penalty-riddle match and closed the series with a 9-5 win over the Rams at the Big Dipper Ice Arena.

The Hawks and Rams combined for 35 penalties, 75 penalty minutes and four game-disqualifications in the opening game. Larry Kincaid and Jeremy Morlock supplied the bulk of the offense for the Hawks, scoring two goals apiece. Rick Morlock, Jason Hundley and Kaleb Westfall also scored for Houston.

Kayla Weber and Mitchell O'Bryant scored for Monroe.

The following afternoon Rick Morlock and Emery Boehm each registered a hat trick in the Hawks' 9-5 win. Kincaid notched five assists in the game.

Boehm scored his first goal of the game, a tally assisted by Kincaid, with seven minutes left in the first period to tie the contest at 1-1. Boehm then gave Houston a 5-2 lead with a pair of goals within a three-minute span late in the second period.

Devin Styers added two goals in the game.

Houston outshot Monroe 62-19.

Colony wins

Region III duals

The Colony Knights finished 7-0 to win the eight-team Region III Duals meet at Colony High School last weekend.

The Knights, tied with Skyview at 6-0 going into the final dual match, earned a 37-33 win over the Panthers in the final dual to win the two-day event. Cody Milner scored a 15-0 technical fall victory in the 160-pound class to help the Knights seal the win over the Panthers -- annually one of the top teams in

Region III.

Dustin Killian (119) and Holan Gravely (125) earned pins in the win over Skyview, while Shawn Olivera (152) also scored a technical fall.

Colony defeated Soldotna, Homer, Kodiak and Palmer on the first day of the event and the Wasilla junior varsity and Skyview the following morning to win the event.

Palmer earned wins over Homer, Soldotna and the Wasilla J.V. in the event.
