Hawks win first Houston Invitational

HOUSTON — The host Houston Hawks won the inaugural Houston Invitational Tournament with a 7-4 win over Soldotna at Houston High School on Saturday.

Houston scored five runs in the second inning and sophomore Scott Kramer fanned eight hitters in 4 1/3 innings during the victory. Josh Grissom was 3-for-4 at the plate with four RBI. Kramer also drove in a pair of runs.

After Soldotna took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, Houston came through with five in the second. After the Stars cut Houston’s advantage to 5-4 in the third, the Hawks extended their lead to 7-4 with a pair of runs in the fifth.

Houston also beat Homer 3-2 in extra innings and Monroe 27-1 during the four-team round-robin tournament.
