ANCHORAGE — A pair of Houston Hawks scored region titles Saturday afternoon. Luke Wagner and Ryan Radmer each earned an individual conference crown during the final round of the Kachemak Conference Championships at Grace Christian School in Anchorage.
Wagner, a defending 123A state champion, pinned Homer’s Dick Perez midway through the second period of the final match of the 220-pound bracket to win his second straight region title. Wagner faced only two opponents during the two-day meet, also pinning Skyview’s James Gallagher during the second period of the semifinals.
Radmer scored his first conference championship with a 9-3 decision over Nikiski’s Michael Stangel. Radmer entered the tourney as the third seed in the 145-pound class. After a first-round bye, Radmer posted a 16-2 major decision over Homer’s Dakota Alward. In the semifinals, Radmer upset second-seeded Bailey Blumentritt of Skyview 4-0.
Cisco Davila also advanced to the finals for Houston and placed second at 126. Davila upset second-seeded Cody Gilroy of Anchorage Christian 6-2 in the semifinals before suffering a 9-4 loss to top-seeded Anthony Walsh of Grace Christian 9-4 in the finals.
Etienne Kinney, Nicole Radmer, Aaron Drake and Keith Paul also finished in the top four, and will join Wagner, Ryan Radmer and Davila in the state tournament next week. Kinney and Drake both finished third for the Hawks, and Nicole Radmer and Paul were each fourth.
Kinney and Nicole Radmer met in the third-place match of the 98-pound class. Kinney pinned Radmer in the third period.
