Recent sub-zero weather is expected to ease with warmer temperatures predicted later in the week. Also, the days grow longer, even if by minutes. Both should be blessings to Alaskans for Palmer Hay Flats, a group that is planning an event at the refuge later this month. The Winter Family Fun Day is scheduled for Jan. 17. Activities include skating, snowshoeing, skiing or a walk around Reflection Lake. Cookies, cocoa and marshmallows well be available around a campfire. An announcement on page A3 has more details. Alaskans for Palmer Hay Flats is a local group dedicated to the preservation and responsible stewardship of the game refuge.
