WASILLA — Shawn Hayes, math teacher at Wasilla High School (WHS) has been selected as the Educator of the Year by the Wasilla Sunrise Rotary Club (WSRC).
“We are so pleased with the outstanding relationship Rotary has at Wasilla High School,” said Matt Stielstra, President of WSRC. “We are also appreciative of the hard work of Mr. Hayes, both in and out of the classroom and on and off the wrestling mats… The relationship starts with the positive work of teachers like Mr. Hayes. Many Rotary exchange students and Interact students have graced the halls of WHS. Rotarians are so very appreciative of the opportunity to make a better community and better world, just like Mr. Hayes is doing at the high school. The 45 women and men of the Wasilla Sunrise Rotary Club continue to invest in the high school kids. Rotary and WHS work together on the international youth exchange program and the Four Way Test Speech Contest, an ethical code of conduct.”
Hayes will be presented a plaque during next spring’s Mat-Su Borough School Board awards ceremony.
