PALMER -- A team from HBO Sports was at Hermon Brothers Field to film a segment for the cable network's series On the Record With Bob Costas on Thursday.

The piece, scheduled to air on HBO on July 11, is about the Alaska Baseball League and the Cape Cod League.

"It's an essay piece," HBO producer Aaron Cohen said. "It has to do with the best that baseball has to offer."

"It's a love letter to baseball."

Prior to traveling to Alaska, Cohen did research on the ABL and the state and chose Palmer as his focus for the ABL's segment of the special.

"After I spoke with (Mat-Su Miner general manager) Pete Christopher for three seconds, I knew that I wanted to come here," Cohen said. "Judging by his enthusiasm, I knew that he would help us out."

Cohen added that the small town atmosphere, the community's love for the Miners and the scenic ballpark all played in his decision to come to Palmer.

Cohen said the piece will be three to five minutes in length.

On the Record, which utilizes a talk-show format, does weekly specials on a variety of subjects in both sports and entertainment.

Cohen said that recent segments he has produced have been on topics ranging from Robert Kennedy to the Kentucky Derby.
